another hot day here in the baltimore area. you're looking at a live picture and a beautiful picture of that. we'll get some relief from the heat that is out there. widening the storm center with a look at your first forecast. we've got the first taste of the summer relief today. most of us, at least, five degrees cooler. some of us are ten to 12 degrees cooler. that improvement should continue for the next couple of days. we have seen one storm out there. they will show it to you. they are actually moving to the south and the west. a little bit of an unusual storm direction. but moving away from the walkersville area right now. and down through the western half of frederick. and eventually, they are crossing over in the borders ask down into virginia. other than that, what we have really seen is a nice ocean boundary coming in out of the east. and they make for a much cooler day down on the eastern shore. and a somewhat cooler day around baltimore. temperatures right now, 90. 86 at annapolis. lock at that over in dover. that's nice. for and the heat index, they are still close to 100. you still need to be careful,

especially in the downtown areas like baltimore and down in dc. 92 tomorrow. that's your only look at tomorrow's forecast. looking like an even better day overall. but a better chance for the seven evening storms tomorrow night. we'll talk about that and what it means for your weekend all coming up. baltimore city issued another code red for today and the city has opened up more cooling centers to cope with the extreme heat. bringing the total to 15. city officials say nearly a thousand people have visited the closing centers so far this year. baltimore city is extending their service hours. they will keep their doors open for three extra hours on tuesday through friday. and the extended hours begin next tuesday and runs through august 11. if you need to report a problem to mta, they are extending the hours of their customer call center. the customer service hotline will take calls from 6:00 in the morning until 11:00 at night until further notice. they stopped taking calls at

outage. what's safe to eat and what you should toss out. >> reporter: it's hot outside and a summer power outage could turn a scorching day from pad to worse. especially if you just made a trip to the grocery store. when power gets restored, how safe are those foods that still look good enough to eat. and the fda, they offer these guidelines. and first, keep the monitors inside your -- the thermometers to make sure that food stays in a safe temperature before, during, and after the power outage. the fridge should be at or below 40 degrees fahrenheit. the freezer at or below zero. when the power goes out, keep the fridge and the power doors shut as much as you can. the fridge to keep them shut for about four hours mind the closed door, a full freezer will hole them steady for about three days. check each item. ice crystals one indication

scenario. i mean, a stormy and hot day. anywhere from 5 to 12 degrees. depending on exactly where you were. the highs are generally around 90, 95, 99. and compared to 105 or so the last couple of days. that's not so bad. and the top radar, one of the things that they could generate especially if they have boundaries sliding in and out of the west. and in canada, generating the storm or two to inspire and flare up. you can kind of see that right here. one storm, just west of the frederick area. other than that, things are awfully clear out there. that's not a severe thunderstorm, just a strong one that we're keeping it on. right now, temperaturewise, low 90s out there. they will fall quickly into the 80s this evening. already back from dover and in the river. so you'll see that the boundary coming out of the east has made a difference further to the east. dew points that are high and that's pretty impressive. the heat and the humidity, we're talking about how close

to 100 with the combination, but they are cooler, we do have more cloud covers rolling in off the oceans here. and we also have a bit of a different air mass here at the sea breeze bunt i are, sneaking in at least as far as indianapolis or so and cooling off with the additional clouds as well, they will keep the shore bringing in the cooler air tomorrow and then a more interesting feature. thissed cold front that will drop us into the 80s as we go into the day on saturday. that comes in tomorrow evening. this will be our best chance for the much needed rain as we go into tomorrow night and even through the day on saturday as that boundary stalls out. you could see the off and on showers and thunderstorms. but for tomorrow, one more day at least up into the 90s. tonight, 75 and an isolated storm, but not much. tomorrow, sunshine early. 92 for your degree here. that's not bad. as we go into tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow evening, scattered showers and storms. boy, it will be much need rain around here. lasting the off and on showers throughout the day on saturday.
